finished the top

Hi Friends!
We are having sunshine today, so I feel like doing stuff!

I finished the top of the Open House quilt for Project Linus.  Thought you might like to see it. It's still pretty small  32x38.

This close up shows that I forgot to piece the centers of the last few flowers I made - to make the quilt the right shape - so I sewed yo-yos over the centers... I figure a little extra texture on a baby quilt is good.

Some of the flowers have green "leaves" and some don't.  Also, here you can see the pieced border I made to make the quilt larger.  Now the backing, batting, basting and quilting.  Got any ideas on how I could quilt this?  I haven't a clue, and I only have my regular sewing machine, so I usually only quilt straight lines.

Well, that's it for today.

Love to you all!

a "B" for Brenda

Hello again, Dear Ones,
Well, I finally got it done!  Even though my hubby and I have been sick for about 2 weeks now, I got it done... and Brenda, if you are seeing this, it will be to your house soon. It'll go out into the mail today.

 At an angle

Less angled. Paper pieced purple and violet with yellow centered violets - the colors aren't coming through right. The green is a grassier color.
Here is my Mother In Law Tongue (or Snake Plant if you prefer) that I showed in an earlier post with the buds about to bloom.  Well, here is what it looks like fully opened!  Didn't last long, the  blooms are already droopy.

But the best news I can share on this blog,  is that after her last chemo and tests, my DD is cancer free...       They couldn't find any remnants of the cancer on the tests they did!!!!!!!!!!!!
Can you think of any other info that would be better to hear?  We are so relieved and elated at the same time!  Congratulations Honey!!!  You did it!  You beat all those little cancer cells.  You told them who's boss.  Good for you, and good for us all!

So on that note of good news, I will leave you with this good wish... that you all have as much grace with disturbances in your life as my DD has had with hers.  It's a really good wish!  And that you have the best results possible to your traumas!!!

Love to you all - especially you, DD!

Not my Grandpa!

Okay, this one is more personal.  To all my Grandkids, and you know who you are.  This is YOUR Grandpa on St. Paddy's Day wearing green - he's not Irish, by the way.

See the green he is displaying?  It's a fabric strip out of one of my scrap bags and it is taped to his wrist.  Not my idea... So if your Mom says you are crazy.......

Love you,
Grammy

I am a Genius!

Hi Friends,
I have a new concept to share!!!!!  Couple of days ago I was sewing a row of blocks together - lots of seams to match and lots of seam allowances to get into the foot and make a mess... How could I have a better sewing experience?  I used a piece of paper on the top of the seam - lined up with the edge and sewed it into the seam like it was a third piece.  You cannot imagine how much easier the seam went together!.  (Sorry for shouting, but I'm really excited about this.) Not once did the foot catch  or pinch the fabric that would have been sticking up.  And the paper made it easier to go over the pins!   (Sorry for your ears!) You just tear away the paper after sewing, just like you were paper piecing.  It worked great! I did sew slowly, and very smoothly! Try it, you'll like it!!! (Please remember to sew responsibly and  recycle the paper.)

 On another front:
You can't see the sprout real well on this picture, but on the next there is a nice new sprout.  Two new Mother In Law Tongues... Its like new babies at our house. That tiny light green spec behind the cutting is the sprout.  I know you are saying "How can she get so excited over such a little thing?"  Well, I'll tell you the cuttings were started last summer and took this long to sprout.  I made them up for Halloween.

See the little one?  So pretty!  And outside my dirty windows and through the screen you can see tangerines still on the tree.  Tonnage has been picked, and given away or made into juice.
We finally transplanted the Silk Oak.  It's now out on the lawn in it's new pot. I expect it will do really well this summer. (Behind on the right is my youngest (8 year old) avocado and on the left is a pineapple guava.  Has the most beautiful blossoms.  I'll show pics when they come out.
Oh, and I am further excited that I have a blooming Mother In Law Tongue to show you!  The mother plant has 2 stalks of flowers that are just starting to open.

Above is the whole plant.  It is about 5 ft tall now and I have been growing it for decades, but it is only about 5 years in this pot. I put 2 or three different kinds in the same pot and they filled it in quite quickly.

So that does it for me today.  If I don't get back here before... Have a wonderful weekend!
